This week we will be talking about the Pokémon craze that has finally hit our shores. For those who are missing out on the fun, here is Pokémon Go in a nutshell.

  • No need for game consoles to move your trainer because you are now the player on a virtual scavenger hunt.
  • Explore the outdoors with your smart phone, as they are virtually everywhere.
  • You will find yourself constantly on the move, as there are more than 500 Pokémon characters to catch.
  • You might even be lucky if it lands on your desk while you are working!

If you are in a coworking space, you are more likely to invade your seatmate’s privacy. Not only are you creating a ruckus, you are also interfering with their work.

However, due to the popularity of this game, there are many Pokémon-obsessed employees. Do know when to stop to avoid an angry boss. You might have a problem if the reason for your tardiness is due to visiting one too many Poké stops.

1. Time Management

Having a deskbound job can be tough when you are practically located near Poké stops. Create your very own Pokémon Team according to departments. Hold a competition every week during lunch hour and reward the team who catches the most Pokémon. Alternatively, have your Pokémon-obsessed employees battle each other at a gym every two hours for a well-deserved break. Not only does it boost their morale, you are making them interact with one another outside the office.

2. Role Model

Apart from having Pokémon-obsessed employees, there might be a handful of Pokémon-obsessed managers amongst them. Do not sabotage your team with your silly behavior. Losing your job over 2 or 3 rare Pokémon or a 1900 CP Dragonite is ridiculous. Have a few ground rules to curb these distractions. Your team members will follow suit as you are setting a good example as a leader.

3. Running Errands

If you can’t get enough of the action, offer to get coffee or lunch for your colleagues. Bring along a fellow enthusiast on your hunt if you like. You can also happily volunteer to drop off files or be sent to the copier room to grab and copy those documents.

4. Work Culture

Taking your work culture into consideration, playing Pokémon at work can be harmless. When you are in a casual office environment, you are bound to have a number of players. For instance, working for a gaming company, you have more advantages than the rest. You might even have a group chat dedicated to rare Pokémon sightings.

If you are in the service line, avoid playing at all cost. It is not a good idea to be seen slacking in front of your guests. You are not only putting yourself at risk but the organization’s reputation is at stake as well.

5. That Is A No-No!

Know when to stop. If you are being called in for a quarterly review, it is best to leave your phone at your desk. This is one way to avoid a major gaffe. Imagine pointing your phone towards your boss, you not land yourself in an awkward situation but you are also one step away from being fired. Remember, do not mix business with pleasure.
