Must Eats in Tai Seng

In 2015, the Straits Times publicize Tai Seng as a trendy and hip food district. Just like the workers in the CBD area, we now have a variety to choose from. There is a reason why you should explore this remote part of Tai Seng. The Commerze @ Irving itself, a mere 5 minutes from Tai Seng MRT (Exit A), houses at least 10 eateries. From cafes to salad bars, this is a different scene from the traditional coffee shops and food courts located near the industrial estate on the other side.

This hidden gem is tucked away in an industrial estate. Don’t be fooled by its odd location, The Boiler, is actually a short walk from Tai Seng MRT and offers ample space with high ceilings. This Cajun-style seafood joint was inspired the owner’s dining experience in LA. It has a quirky setting as tables are lined with grease-proofed tablemat and plastic bibs are provided to protect your clothes. The only way to dig in is to pour its content on the table and share the food. It is perfect for a dinner date with friends or family gatherings.

Just another café located in the industrial estate. 23 Jumpin is situated in between an array of cafes and salad bars. With its minimalistic interior and sincere service, they promise a bang for your buck. Their menu includes your usual brunch, house specialties and pastas. One thing that sets them apart from their competitors would be their homemade dessert. With its reasonable pricing, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere, it is one place that is worthy to revisit.

It may just be another “hipster” café, but this is a great place to get your caffeine fix. They serve from traditional kopi to espresso-based beverages and a handful of ice-blended drinks. They also have quite a selection of breakfast offerings. If you are looking for something light, just grab their freshly baked and packed sandwiches and you are good to go. Their space gives an airy and bright feeling so it is a nice place to just chill during the day and take a break from your hectic schedule. To all our Muslim friends, Grasso Coffee is now Halal certified. Don’t miss out on the buzz!

The scarcity of ‘Halal’ food around this side of Tai Seng can be frustrating. Apart from Oleh Oleh Tea House, which serves popular Malay dishes, there, is Indo Delight located in Trivex. Our personal favorite has to be their Ayam Penyet. Piping hot rice, a generous portion of chicken and getting a kick out of their sambal is the perfect lunch on Fridays. Be sure to head out early to avoid the queue!

Looking for something healthy and pocket friendly? Head down to Round 8 and treat yourself to tortilla wraps, salads and cold pressed juices. Keep an eye out for their list of homemade dressings such as truffle mayo, spicy chilli and even passion plum.
